Picnic Packaging Ideas

6 Dec

For my actual picnic holder for my ‘M&S Perfect Picnic’ brief, I have decided that it is going to be in the style of a vintage birdcage. I think this would go with the vintage tea party style and would also be nice to be kept as decoration around the house, as this would be a permanent picnic set (can be re-used). The birdcage design would open up to reveal different compartments in which the cutlery, teacups etc. would be stored for the tea party picnic. I have also tried out a few colours for the picnic packaging. So far I think I prefer the darkest blue colour, but have still not yet decided. Here is a mock up design of my packaging and some colour ideas:

M&S Picnic Ideas

18 Nov

I have decided to go with the M&S brief of creating the ‘perfect picnic‘ for the recent brief set by the YCN awards. The audience isn’t set, so it could be aimed at anyone; giving a lot of freedom for ideas. Personally, when I think of M&S, it just reminds me of my grandparents – but that’s not to say that you couldn’t aim at a younger audience but sell it as a gift, one that the grandparents could buy for their grandchildren. M&S also makes clear about looking at their ‘Plan A’ eco policy, therefore would have to contain very little waste. I have thought up a range of different picnics for different events but here are my favourite options so far:

Idea 1: Perfect for the younger audience and for those summer days! I was thinking of making a summer hamper which would contain speakers and an iPod docking station, great for those days at the beach or at the park with mates. This would also contains an ice box to make your own ice lollies to bring along and other items to keep you entertained through the day e.g. blow-up beach ball, fold-up frisbee etc. This hamper would be re-usable and could be used over the whole of the summer; even as a docking station through winter inside the house and kept for many years (would reduce waste with it being a long-term item). The hamper wouldn’t come with food when bought, but would be like a ‘pick and mix’ styled picnic bought from M&S, much like a meal deal which is used in most super markets these days.

Idea 2: Another long-term hamper which would be kept; a vintage tea-party picnic. This would be suitable for the elder audience but suitable for the younger audience also. The hamper would contain a tea-pot, cups & saucers, cutlery, a fold up cupcake 2-tier stand, plates, napkins, table cloth, tea-bags, sugar cubes etc. The sandwiches and cupcakes would not be included in the hamper but would also be like a ‘pick and mix’ style from M&S e.g. ’4 sandwiches, 6 cupcakes + 8 teabags for £10′. This could be enjoyed at anytime in the year from the comfort of your own home; great for a get together with friends or family.

YCN Brief – Fedrigoni Marketing Campaign

18 Mar

Today we handed in our Fedrigoni project, after many ups and downs! We decided to create an Interactive Launch Event showcasing the best of the ‘Sirio Colour’  paper range. This would include an installation of moving paper cogs with all faces of cogs designed by the audience. The invites would include a cog template for the audience to create their design and this would be used as a ticket to get into the event, where it is then added to the interactive wall of paper cogs. Our marketing campaign covered a few mediums in which we thought were relevant to the audience. These are shown below:

YCN Briefs: Fedrigoni

1 Feb

We have now been given our new briefs set by YCN after receiving our marks from the last project; which I got a B+ for which i’m happy with :)  After debating between three of the briefs, I have finally chosen to go with the Fedrigoni Brief, which is as follows:

Bring Fedrigoni’s versatile range of papers to life to ensure they’re the paperof choice for existing and new customers.

Background: It’s nearly as old as communication itself, yet today, paper is as versatile and technologically advanced as any silicon chip. Fedrigoni has been refining the art and science of making fine-quality special papers for more than 120 years. Striking surfaces, tactile textures, vividcolours, paper that can be pressed, bent, cut and folded into almost any form you can imagine. Our papers are ultra functional and at the same time, wonderfully expressive. They can shock and surprise, or soothe and reassure. They can demand your attention or retire gracefully into the background. In our hands, paper is no ordinary communication tool; it’s an art form in its own right. The Creative Challenge Choose from one of the ranges listed below, which form part of our imaginative selectionof papers, to create a fully integrated marketing campaign. This may include direct mail,PR, Web, advertising, newsletters or events / promo launch. Your idea should show how you would promote the chosen range using various channels to reach our target audience. Ranges: Sirio Colour, Marcate Colour, Freelife, Pergamenata, Savile Row, Woodstock, Book & Box, Ispira and Splendorlux Colour.

Target Audience: Top fashion labels, boutique publishing houses, businesses with global reputations to protect and enhance. The people who use our paper are some of the most demanding customers you’ll meet anywhere. So it’s no surprise that they expect our paper to perform some very demanding tasks.

Mandatories: Our only stipulation is that you showcase our fantastic range of papers. Remember that while we appreciate we are in a digital age, we are a paper manufacturer and wish to keep this medium alive! Fedrigoni will offer standard packs of samples relating to your chosen paper range.

I now need to research more into the company, and possibly look into paper sculpting artists. I can imagine this brief making a good animation/ stop motion piece in which I could use photography, but I will first need to come up with a concept, which is easier said than done!
