M&S Ponder Time Final Piece

22 Dec

This is a YCN online competition brief which was to create the ‘perfect picnic’ for M&S. The target audience for my picnic set is females in particular (25-55 years old), but may attract more audiences. I decided to create a tea party set styled picnic which could be used anywhere. The tea set contains the cutlery and other novelty accessories for the picnic, whereas the food for the tea set would be bought from M&S separately. This is a permanent tea set which could be used over and over again, which also prevents excess waste.

The concept of my tea party revolves around the ‘Ponder Time’ title that I gave the picnic tea set. The tea set would be great for catch-ups or get together with friends, therefore I decided to include things to ‘ponder’ within the set. These things would be printed on the inside of the picnic packaging, on the napkins, teabags etc. and would give the audience more to talk about, or ‘ponder’ about.

Magma – Final Piece

6 Nov

Here are my final products/ designs created for the Magma Brief. The aim of this brief was to attract more of a student audience to the Magma Bookstore in Manchester (www.magmabooks.com). To do this we were to create a number of products and to advertise them. I decided to go with the theme of the student always being hungover, therefore created products to help them get over their hangovers.

Wall Chart
– The first product I created was a Wall Chart. This would help the student audience keep track of how many hangover and study days they are having across the year. The aim is that you should only have 1 hangover/ treat day per every 2 study/ work days. This chart helps track whether you’re the perfect student or on your way to failure! This is done by using the stickers provided (red and blue).

To advertise the wall chart I created a double page spread which would be displayed in a student magazine. It would be released at the beginning of January and would give the audience a free month of the chart, in hope that the student would want to carry on with it for the whole year. Details on where to buy the full wall chart are displayed on the DPS.

Calendar – My second product was a 3D calendar which would be put together by the user, with the provided nets and instructions. The net in which forms a bed where the calendar is held. The calendar also continues the theme of tracking your hangover/ study days by using stickers, but also provides the user with a weekly hangover tip (and on special occasions such as christmas etc.)

Sticker Book - If running out of stickers for the wall chart or calendar, a sticker pack would be available for the user to buy. This could imply that the user is either treating themselves too much or working too hard! These stickers could be bought for other uses also.

Tea-Towel – Humorous tea-towel for student halls/ accommodation – ‘It’s a scientific fact that a bacon butty can help cure a hangover’.

Mugs – To warn others of your self-inflicted hangover.

Self Promotion – ‘Hannah Saves The Day’

20 May

After researching and contacting the design industry, we were to create a self promotional item to send out to design agencies in order to try and receive placements and gain experience in the industry. For my self promotional item I decided to go along the super hero theme; with me being the super hero. The comic tells the story of a mystery ‘Super Designer’ who has been spotted solving designer’s problems across the Greater Manchester area; everything from awkward clients to starving designers! To finish off the comic, the super hero’s true identity is revealed as ‘Miss Hannah Furnell’ (myself), and this is used to put across some of my personal information such as my contact details, qualities and skills (similar to a CV/ business card). The comic strips are then held together within an interesting fold out card design, which is titled ‘Hannah Saves The Day’.

Diana Website – Social Networking

9 Apr

To make the website more interactive I decided to link the site to social networking sites; Facebook and Twitter. I added ‘like’ buttons to the Diana City photo uploads, you are able to share your photos and follow the Diana City Project pages. All events organised would also be listed as events on Facebook, allowing users to invite their friends and making the word spread further. The events would take place in the main cities of most countries and would involve large amounts of Diana camera users creating a long line around the city and each taking a photograph, capturing the whole city. The events would also include freebies and competitions – all influencing the sales of the Diana film camera.

Diana Ipod Application

Along with the website, I also designed an Ipod application which also allows you to take photos and edit them to look like Diana film pictures. You can also share your photos, look at top rated photos and like/comment on photos.

Diana Camera Website

7 Apr

Here are my web designs for my most recent web piece; in which I have chosen to advertise the ‘Diana’ camera. The home page allows you to upload your own photograph and edit it to look like a Diana film picture and share it on social network sites. It also links you to download the ipod application version of this photograph editor. On the products page it shows you all of the Diana cameras, prices and where to buy them. The final page I have designed is the ‘Diana City Project’ page, which makes this project more interactive. This would involve events where Diana users would meet up and capture their city and then upload their photographs to the site. It would take place in all countries and all the main cities to get more people interested in the product. Event dates would be listed on the site but then linked to Facebook Event pages. The project and website also has links to social networking sites allowing the user to follow the project/ Diana cameras.

Behance Portfolio

25 Mar

I recently came across the website ‘Behance’ and can say i’m actually quite happy to have found out about it. It’s a great site for uploading your artwork and getting your portfolio work seen by the public eye, and it doesn’t cost a thing! So if anyone is looking for somewhere to upload their portfolio without paying for hosting costs, then this may be the place! It’s also great for looking through other designer’s work so check it out :)

YCN Briefs: Fedrigoni

1 Feb

We have now been given our new briefs set by YCN after receiving our marks from the last project; which I got a B+ for which i’m happy with :)  After debating between three of the briefs, I have finally chosen to go with the Fedrigoni Brief, which is as follows:

Bring Fedrigoni’s versatile range of papers to life to ensure they’re the paperof choice for existing and new customers.

Background: It’s nearly as old as communication itself, yet today, paper is as versatile and technologically advanced as any silicon chip. Fedrigoni has been refining the art and science of making fine-quality special papers for more than 120 years. Striking surfaces, tactile textures, vividcolours, paper that can be pressed, bent, cut and folded into almost any form you can imagine. Our papers are ultra functional and at the same time, wonderfully expressive. They can shock and surprise, or soothe and reassure. They can demand your attention or retire gracefully into the background. In our hands, paper is no ordinary communication tool; it’s an art form in its own right. The Creative Challenge Choose from one of the ranges listed below, which form part of our imaginative selectionof papers, to create a fully integrated marketing campaign. This may include direct mail,PR, Web, advertising, newsletters or events / promo launch. Your idea should show how you would promote the chosen range using various channels to reach our target audience. Ranges: Sirio Colour, Marcate Colour, Freelife, Pergamenata, Savile Row, Woodstock, Book & Box, Ispira and Splendorlux Colour.

Target Audience: Top fashion labels, boutique publishing houses, businesses with global reputations to protect and enhance. The people who use our paper are some of the most demanding customers you’ll meet anywhere. So it’s no surprise that they expect our paper to perform some very demanding tasks.

Mandatories: Our only stipulation is that you showcase our fantastic range of papers. Remember that while we appreciate we are in a digital age, we are a paper manufacturer and wish to keep this medium alive! Fedrigoni will offer standard packs of samples relating to your chosen paper range.

I now need to research more into the company, and possibly look into paper sculpting artists. I can imagine this brief making a good animation/ stop motion piece in which I could use photography, but I will first need to come up with a concept, which is easier said than done!
