Spirit of the Place – Dovestones (Final Project)

10 May

Here is my final project for my Level 1 Photography course. I chose the theme ‘Spirit of the Place’ and based my photographs at Dovestones Reservoir, Greenfield. I decided to focus on the landscape and nature side of the place, but also the family day out aspect. Here are my 10 final photographs:

Photography – Creative Shadows

21 Mar

Tonight we used interesting shaped objects to form creative shadow shapes. An example of this was to put a ring shape on the binding of a book to make the shape of a love heart. Here is how they turned out:

Photography – Portraiture – Cyber Goth/ Punk

7 Mar

Mel’s daughter also brought along another outfit for us to photograph, following the cyber goth/punk style. We also tried using different objects such as mirrors to make this shoot even more interesting:

Photography – Portraiture – 50′s Rock and Roll

7 Mar

In tonight’s photography lesson we had Mel’s daughter to come in and do modeling for a ‘funky’ photo shoot. With her being a fashion student, she designed the outfits herself and choose to go with a 50′s Rock n’ Roll look. Here’s how they turned out:

Photography – Garlic

14 Feb

Along with capturing sparks tonight, we also photographed garlic. I think the pictures came out slightly dark, so maybe I should of used a higher ISO. I also used my 50mm lens to capture some of the pictures.

Photography – Watching Sparks Fly

14 Feb

One of the tasks we did tonight at Photography was to create sparks so we could capture them. We used long exposure times (10 seconds) to capture the sparks flying.

Photography: Portraiture

31 Jan

Tonight at photography we had my sister volunteer to come in and be our model. We decided to try out some quite dark portraiture shots using the settings ISO 400, 1/125 and f/8 and using an off camera flash/ soft box at an angle above her. Here were my results:

Photography: Shiny Objects

24 Jan

Tonight we focused on trying to photograph shiny objects without revealing reflections or shadows, in which we used high-key lighting. This involved using an off camera flash above the object (within a softbox), a white background and white reflectors on either side of the object. We then set the camera to have an ISO of 100, f stop 5.6 and an exposure of around 1/125 of a second. Here were my results:
