At the final gig I was surprised to see a video clip on the big screens containing photography work from various projects around Manchester, taken by me and and the other two photographers; Phil Bond and Aaron McCammon. This video was also given out on a free USB stick to all who attended the Orange Rockcorps concert; around 3,000 volunteers. I loved how our photography work was shown to such a large audience and got our work out there. Here is the video that was shown:
Orange Rockcorps – Final Gig
8 JulTonight was the gig all Orange Rockcorp voluteers had been working towards, giving 4 hours volunteer work in order to recieve a gig ticket to see Snoop Dogg, Vampire Weekend, Tinie Tempah and Mr. Hudson in return. I enjoyed the gig although not all bands were to my taste of music, but me and the two other photographers were allowed one song in the photography pit to take photographs of the acts. I got one song to take photos of Vampire Weekend. I enjoyed this experience but didn’t think it was enough time to figure out settings to get a decent photo, so I was dissapointed with my outcome. But overall I enjoyed the night, later attending the Rockcorps afterparty at ‘The Lounge’ in Manchester, and also the after-after party! Meeting Alex Zane along the way! That was the end of Orange Rockcorps for this year, but maybe i’ll get the opportunity to do some photography for them next year!
If you fancy voluteering next year (or in the remaining London projects this year) then keep yourself updated! http://www.orangerockcorps.co.uk/
Rockcorps – Crew Pictures
4 JulToday I went to the Rockcorps office to take pictures of the Manchester crew I have enjoyed working with in the past month. Been a great experience and hopefully will be able to keep in contact with them in the future! Also had a laugh when someone decided to aim a hosepipe behind the crew whilst they were posing for pictures!
Rockcorps – St. Mary’s Primary School
3 JulToday’s project was based at St Mary’s Primary School in Manchester. Unfortunately, the play area and some of the grounds have become difficult to maintain, which is where Rockcorp volunteers came in handy! They created a new look around the outside of the building, updated the nursery, and also created new gardens and play equipment . For more details on the project, visit the project blog. For photographs from the day, go here.
Rockcorps – Debdale Park
30 JunToday’s project was at Debdale Park. Volunteers tackled the challenge of taming the wild grass and bushes that covered the paths and created new paths with large amounts of gravel. Photos from this day can be found on the facebook page, and more details about the project can be found on the project blog.
Rockcorps – Moss Side Adventure Playground
26 JunToday we returned to the Moss Side Adventure Playground in Manchester to add even more paint to the site. Volunteers spent the day working hard to give the playground a complete make-over. By the end of the day the volunteers had completed wicked art murals of a treasure hunt, under the sea scenes, desert landscapes and city scenes. The park had seen a huge transformation since our first visit. You can see this in photos on the rockcorps facebook page. You can also read about the event on the rockcorps project blog.
Rockcorps – West Gorton Youth Centre
25 JunToday voluteers brightened up the walls of the West Gorton Youth Centre. One group creating a magical secret garden, another group re-painting a giant sports hall with bright colours and murals and the remaining groups bringing colour into the kitchen and social room. For photos from the project, visit the facebook page. Also visit the project blog for more details on the project.
Rockcorps – Holy Name Primary School
19 JunToday volunteers helped out at Holy Name Primary School, Manchester, painting the nursery area and creating playground games, brightening up the school with stunning murals! Photographs from the day can be found on the facebook, and more details on the event can be found on the Rockcorps Blog.
