NMP Project – Day 8 And Project Name Ideas

11 Feb

Today I’ve been thinking of a project name, so that I can start creating a logo/ website etc. to promote my self documenting photography. I figured out that I will be doing the project for 13 weeks (91 days), maybe it could include this in the project name? Here are some of my name ideas, feedback on which is best would be highly appreciated!

- Hannagram
- From The Outside
- Project 13-91-ONE (13 weeks, 91 days, one me)
- All Around Me
- Beyond Me
- Just Me

And another day of me, starting to get a little fed up of this snow now…

NMP Project – Test Shots – Day 1

4 Feb

For my NMP I have decided to do documentary photography of myself using self-portraits. I have not yet decided where or when I will take the photos daily, but an idea i’d like to go with is taking a picture of myself in the same place every day, and seeing the changes around me e.g. the weather and also the changes in myself. Here are just some quick test shots I did yesterday whilst it started snowing, they aren’t perfect, but it was just a tester. I will have to do another test shot and make sure I stand in the same place each time and that the picture is shot from the same angle each time. Doing this will give me more effective results and make possibly a good motion piece. I am also debating whether to keep on the same outfit each time, so I stay the same and the background changes, or just changing clothes/ props depending on the weather.

Next thing I need to think of is a project name, then I can start documenting my self-portraits through a set up blog or website dedicated to the project.

NMP Idea

2 Feb

After attending a seminar today, I have decided which idea to go with for my NMP. I was debating between a few ideas; one of them being the Islington Mill event photography, which I can still do but may take around 4 weeks to set up, therefore I don’t have this time to wait, as it will be wasting valuable time. I could do this alongside, but as my primary project I have decided to do a photographic documentary of myself, using self portraits. This would mean taking a photograph of myself every day up until the deadline, and putting it together in a creative way. I’m not too sure whether I will take the photo in the same place/ time every day or just take a photograph which represents what I do each day; this is still yet to be thought about. I’m hoping to set up a blog or web page that will document this, and possibly a magazine with the end results.

So looks like you lucky people are going to see a lot more of this face in the next few months!

Time for NMP…

26 Jan

Today we were briefed for our negotiated major project, our FINAL project of university, argh! I have a few ideas floating around but still not sure on a definite choice, as I want to enjoy it and want that to show through the work. We were told to work to our strengths and interests with this project as it is our final project, which we will want to make a great impression through the final show and get ourselves out there into the industry. Although it could also be a time to experiment since once in the industry you don’t get much freedom of experimenting. Here are some of my ideas:

- Creative event photography and film for ‘Islington Mill‘ – one of our tutors approached me and asked if I would be interested in doing some photography/ creative filming for events at this venue, as they are looking for someone to do this and she believed I would be a good candidate for it – it’s not set in stone yet but this would be a great opportunity if it was to happen, I could use this as my NMP, or even do it alongside my NMP as a side-project.

- Design a typeface – I have for a long time wanted to create a typeface as I love typography and haven’t attempted it before. I would then love to apply it to a range of media, even bringing it to life by creating large 3D versions of the typeface and using photography to capture them. I could also include the 3D versions of the typeface in my final year show piece.

- As technologies advance, are we giving too much information about our personal lives? – relate to dissertation question, maybe create a campaign to highlight the importance of privacy online to those vulnerable.

- Document through photography – maybe do a documentation of something using photography e.g. maybe self-portraits every day up until deadline and make into a magazine etc.

These are just a few ideas I have thought about, but I will continue to think about other ideas that could be possible for my NMP.

Tea Party Tea Labels – Ideas

29 Nov

I took two of my logo design ideas and tried creating some tea bag labels, which would be attached to the end of each tea bag; stating the type/ flavour of tea (they also display the M&S logo on the backs of each label). I like the brown labelled style as it looks very natural and organic; which is what we may think of when we think of tea. I also think the logos and typefaces used work well together.

M&S Picnic Ideas

18 Nov

I have decided to go with the M&S brief of creating the ‘perfect picnic‘ for the recent brief set by the YCN awards. The audience isn’t set, so it could be aimed at anyone; giving a lot of freedom for ideas. Personally, when I think of M&S, it just reminds me of my grandparents – but that’s not to say that you couldn’t aim at a younger audience but sell it as a gift, one that the grandparents could buy for their grandchildren. M&S also makes clear about looking at their ‘Plan A’ eco policy, therefore would have to contain very little waste. I have thought up a range of different picnics for different events but here are my favourite options so far:

Idea 1: Perfect for the younger audience and for those summer days! I was thinking of making a summer hamper which would contain speakers and an iPod docking station, great for those days at the beach or at the park with mates. This would also contains an ice box to make your own ice lollies to bring along and other items to keep you entertained through the day e.g. blow-up beach ball, fold-up frisbee etc. This hamper would be re-usable and could be used over the whole of the summer; even as a docking station through winter inside the house and kept for many years (would reduce waste with it being a long-term item). The hamper wouldn’t come with food when bought, but would be like a ‘pick and mix’ styled picnic bought from M&S, much like a meal deal which is used in most super markets these days.

Idea 2: Another long-term hamper which would be kept; a vintage tea-party picnic. This would be suitable for the elder audience but suitable for the younger audience also. The hamper would contain a tea-pot, cups & saucers, cutlery, a fold up cupcake 2-tier stand, plates, napkins, table cloth, tea-bags, sugar cubes etc. The sandwiches and cupcakes would not be included in the hamper but would also be like a ‘pick and mix’ style from M&S e.g. ’4 sandwiches, 6 cupcakes + 8 teabags for £10′. This could be enjoyed at anytime in the year from the comfort of your own home; great for a get together with friends or family.
