To complete my celebrity re-branding project, I created an advertisement for the Sid & Nancy talk show. Since many students use public transport to get to college/university, I decided to create a bus stand advertisement. It is brightly coloured and I think the style of the image and typography would appeal to it’s audience. There is also good hierarchy in the text; with the logo/show name in large bold text at the top of the advertisement and all other information in smaller text, depending on it’s level of importance. The typeface used is very bold and easily read, which would cause no confusion for the viewer. The channel logo has also been used to give indication to what channel the show would be shown on. Here is my advertisement and how it would look when applied to a bus stand:
Celebrity Re-brand: Ipod Application
2 NovAfter creating the Student Survival guide, I decided to develop this further into an Ipod Application. Most of the target audience (students) would own an Ipod, or some form of technology that would allow them to download applications, and if not, would be sure to have one in the near future. This is why an Ipod Application would be perfect for this target audience, who are forever keeping up with updating technology. Here is my application design (click for larger view):
Celebrity Re-Brand: Student Survival Guide
29 OctAnother piece of marketing I created to help re-brand Sid & Nancy was a Student Survival guide; as the target audience for their show and products would be students. I chose to use a cut and paste style, similar to those used by artist ‘Jamie Reid’, using bright colours to attract the audience. I also created an illustration of an ‘ill piggy bank’, which is shown to have lack of money; which fits with the lifestyle of which students live. After designing the book cover for the guide, I designed a double-page spread for the book, following consistent themes, colours and font styles throughout. My designs are below:

Celebrity Re-brand: Fashion Ad
26 OctAs one way of re-branding Sid & Nancy I have created a clothing line magazine ad which would be aimed at students that watch their talk show and would appear in magazines aimed at students. Since vintage has become very popular recently with students, the clothing line would be a vintage line released at Topshop stores (a high street store also aimed at the student audience). When creating the ad, I was debating whether to use imagery of Sid & Nancy (using existing images from the internet) or using my own photography of a model wearing the clothing. As many of the images I found on the internet were very low resolution, I decided to use my own photography. Here is my final design of the fashion ad, which displays the logo clearly, uses hierarchy of text and also flows well with the imagery:
Celebrity Re-Brand: Logo Design
22 OctAfter researching previous talk show logos, I designed my own logo for the celebrity re-brand of Sid & Nancy. I first experimented with different fonts but decided font ‘creampuff’ was the most suitable. I also changed the kerning of the letters ‘N’ and ‘y’ in Nancy to make the logo look more interesting. This also created a gap within the logo, therefore I filled this using star designs; which would be relevant to the talk show, as they would be interviewing other stars/ celebrities. I like the way this logo looks classy and slightly vintage, which is very much in style in today’s fashion. I now need to decide what comprehensive marketing/ publicity campaign ideas I may choose when re-branding the couple (along with their talk show). Here is my final logo:
Celebrity Re-brand: Sid & Nancy
4 OctAs our new communications project, we have been given the brief to re-brand a failing (or dead) celebrity. In todays media it is not unusual to see celebrities relaunching themselves time and time again with new careers, perfumes, books etc, so it is our task to re-invent a failing celebrity personality. We must choose a comprehensive marketing/ publicity campaign choosing 3 of the following:
- Logo/ Identity/ Branding (compulsory)
- Branding applied to celebrities own range of clothing/ perfume (design labels)
- Promotional pantomime poster/ editorial dps in glossy magazine.
- Website; include home page, site map and 2 pages, considering usability, SEO and highlight functionality.
- Book jacket design – Celebrity has written a book of tongue-in-cheek fairy stories for children. Create a cover illustration; include branding, appropriate title typography and relevant book jacket details. Illustration must be typographical.
- Advertorial or Advert in appropriate magazine.
The celebrity I choose to re-brand was bassist and punk legend ‘Sid Vicious’ of the Sex Pistols, who died of a drug overdose in 1979. When discussing this in a seminar group, I decided it would be best to use both Sid Vicious AND Nancy Spungen (girlfriend of Sid Vicious who also died; stabbed due to the influence of drugs in 1978). Both characters were drug addicts and rebellious punks, therefore I chose to re-brand them as talk show presenters. The talk show would be one quite similar to ‘Richard & Judy’; a tea-time show interviewing celebrities and including other things such as cooking, fashion and maybe even a small call-in game (like ‘You Say We Pay’). ‘Richard and Judy’ is seen as a very family-friendly show, but I think I may add a twist to the talk show, maybe so that it is aimed more at students rolling out of bed at 4 in the afternoon! There are many talk shows throughout the day but none of which are aimed at students. I now need to look into designing a logo for the show and looking into existing logos/shows. I also need to consider whether Sid & Nancy will be as they were before they died, or what they would be like today if they were still alive.

Sid & Nancy = Richard & Judy with a twist!
